Looking Ahead

When I returned home from my year of traveling I was lucky to have a good friend to stay with for a few days in Vancouver before heading home to the Island. When I walked in the door I was immediately presented with a gift. Knowing my passion for all things Gail, my dear friend Nathaniel gave me one of her books that I've been lusting over. I am now a proud owner of "Never Too Late". Yay!
The gift was totally unexpected. Also, its not only thoughtful to give me something I enjoy, it will also hopefully make an impact on my future through some sound retirement advice.
It comes at a great time too because now that I'm debt free and realized an important life goal of traveling before settling down I'm ready to take the big step of saving for retirement.
I've known since I was a teenager that saving for retirement early was key. I preached it to my friends. So what happened? I wasted the opportunity. Thats what.
Well thats all about to change. In April I will have three paydays and my finances will start getting back on track. Its time to start investing in my future.

Phone Gremlins

Gail recently had a post regarding telemarketers and this is a topic that can get me going! I don't know why but recently I have been getting more and more of these calls. A lot of the time they ask for somebody I've never heard of (its always different too) and when I say they have the wrong number they sudden want to speak to me. Worse, I get a lot of the auto dialed calls where you pick up and there is a delayed response and then somebody comes on suddenly and tries to sell you something. I even find some on my answering machine.

It's very aggravating! Once when I was a teenager I took a note from Jerry Seinfeld and called the telemarketer back with the number from our call display! Needless to say the woman was shocked and didn't find it nearly amusing as my family did. That company had been calling us every day for weeks on end before I did that. After my little returned call we never heard from them again.

The point is that I hate being solicited to all the freaking time. My PO Box has a no junk mail sticker on it so I never worry about it there but at home (where I receive no personal mail at all) is always stuff with old tenant mail and flyers galore. I am the type of person who will leave a store if the salesperson is too annoying and aggressive. These high pressure sales tactics turn me off.

I guess this is a good quality to have, so that I don't pushed into buying things often.Well, there is one local shop where the owner can always up sell me but its opened me up to so many new types of ingredients and delicious treats! I thought it was just me, but after talking to others I found out they always noticed it too but didn't mind it. Good salesman!

A Woman of Independent Means

Gail is republishing her book " A Woman of Independent Means" soon!

I am thrilled!! I've been scouring around for copies of any of her books for ages and have come up with nothing. I'm glad she posted about what's been going on. I'm even more glad that she has decided to republish the book and will consider doing more if they sell well.

As soon as they post a link for where and when to find it I will be sure to update everyone!

Gail Vaz-Oxlade Update from Facebook

I am in a group in Facebook that includes Gail and is about her show that we all know and love. Today I received an email from the group stating the following:

Hi everyone,

We are planning to produce two special episodes this year featuring couples who have made the decision to split up. Couples cast in these episodes would get all the same great information about managing their money, paying off debt and planning for the future - as well as some practical tips to help them start to build a new life. If you know anyone in this situation who could benefit from Gail's help, please send them to themoneytest.com to fill out the application. They should note the status of their relationship clearly in the application.

I also wanted to let you all know that as of April 11th, Til Debt will now be airing on Fridays in primetime, at 9 and 9:30pm. Any new episodes remaining from season IV will be seen there first. This schedule will continue until July, with repeats from Season IV and III.

Our season V families will unfortunately have to wait to see their episodes until the Fall schedule begins (likely in October).

Thank you all for your continued support of the series.

Jennifer Horvath, Series Producer

I thought I'd pass this bit of info on to my readers because I know you all love Gail as much as I do!

Cheers!

Spring Cleaning!

What better time to start cleaning out our closets and dusty files than Spring?

So by now you have all clued into the fact that I absolutely adore Gail Vaz-Oxlade! While poking around her site some more I clicked on some of the links. I was more than thrilled at what I found.

When I attended the seminar held by Gail a few months ago I received a folder with some tips on how to get yourself organized and some inspiring charts and so forth.

Well I am more than pleased to share with you Gail's "Get Your Finances Organized in 12 Steps."
